English teaching will be established at Floraskolan

The ongoing transformation of society brings new demands on Skellefteå municipality's organisations. As the need for a specialist workforce grows, more English-speaking families will move here to live and work. To make the transition easier, Skellefteå municipality will start offering primary school education that is partly taught in English. The ambition is to start in the fall semester 2023.

Henrik Bolin, head of the primary school department, believes that this is an important piece of the puzzle in the municipality's cooperation with the business community.

- Being able to offer education taught in English has become increasingly important in the process of furthering a growing international job market. In dialogues with the business community, we have seen that this can be crucial for some families who are in the decision-making process of moving to Skellefteå.

At the moment, it is only the International English School (IES) that offers tuition in English but they have soon reached their maximum capacity in terms of number of pupils. Therefore, the establishment of English teaching at Floraskolan will be a valuable addition.

The Swedish curriculum will be followed and Swedish will be used as the main language, but as much as half of the teaching may be held in English. This form of education is intended both for families who settle in the municipality for a limited period of time, and for those who intend to stay here.

- I'm excited about the fact that we will soon be able to welcome international pupils to Floraskolan. It's positive for both our students and our employees as it will bring new perspectives and great learning opportunities, says Nicklas Brorsson, principal at Floraskolan.
