The Municipality of Skellefteå is mapping the extent to which local businesses are affected by the bankruptcy of Northvolt's subsidiary. The aim is to listen to the business community and create an overview of the situation as a basis for future initiatives.

On Tuesday 8 October, it was announced that Northvolt's expansion subsidiary in Skellefteå was to be declared bankrupt. The municipality is now urging companies that have business relations with the company to contact the business office.

’Many local companies have put their heart and soul into supporting the expansion of the battery factory. The risk of not being paid for their claims naturally raises concerns and questions,' says Anja Palm, Head of Business Development at Skellefteå Municipality.

The municipality's business office has already had an ongoing dialogue with local businesses about the impact. Mapping the impact on local businesses can later form the basis for future activities by the municipality, as well as efforts by other actors, such as the state and the County Council.

'Skellefteå and Västerbotten have a rich and robust business community that will not stand or fall with Northvolt. At the same time, we want to see how different actors can possibly help to soften the blow for companies that may be affected by the bankruptcy,' says Lorents Burman (S), chairman of the Municipal Executive Committee.

The municipality is working to provide relevant information to support affected local businesses and will offer various forms of dialogue meetings with business associations. Suppliers with claims against the company should contact the receiver at the Stockholm District Court.
