During Preparedness Week, several activities will be held in Skellefteå focusing on home preparedness, crisis preparedness and total defence. The full program is available on this page. On Saturday, September 26, you’re also welcome to attend Preparedness Day at Guldtorget, where you can learn more about how you can contribute to preparedness for a crisis or war.

Tuesday, September 22
Preparedness Conference with the Swedish National Agency for Education
This conference is intended for those who work with emergency preparedness in preschools or schools. It focuses on the role and responsibilities of the school system during periods of heightened alert. Topics covered include legislation and examples of collaboration at the local and regional levels. Particular emphasis is placed on how students and staff are affected in emergency situations and how to foster a sense of safety.

Lecture: When a Crisis Goes Viral - Social Media, Humor, and Resilience in Turbulent Times with Moa Eriksson Krutrök
Moa Eriksson Krutrök is an associate professor of sociology at Umeå University and conducts research on social media, crises, emotions, humor, and digital resilience. In 2025, she received the Umeå Municipality Science Award. In her lecture, she highlights how social media quickly takes center stage during crises - as a source of information, community, and humor, but also as a platform for disinformation and influence campaigns. How are we affected by what we encounter in our feeds, and how can social media simultaneously contribute to our resilience?

Wednesday, September 23
Online Lecture: Home Preparedness with Kalle Zackari Wahlström
Kalle Zackari Wahlström is a TV host, author and media personality. In his lecture, he will highlight examples of prepping, gardening, food processing and energy-efficient solutions. The lecture will be livestreamed on-site, and the municipality’s emergency preparedness coordinator will be present to answer questions and discuss preparedness.

Saturday, September 26 – Preparedness Day
You are part of Sweden’s total defence. Come to Guldtorget and Sara Kulturhus to learn how you can contribute to preparedness for a crisis or war.
Guldtorget, Skellefteå, 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Programme:
- The fire department will display a fire truck and provide information on fire safety.
- The Home Guard will showcase a dog-handler team and a tracked vehicle.
- Volunteer defense organizations will provide information on home preparedness.
- Skellefteå Kraft will be participating throughout the day with representatives on site.
- Energy and climate advisors from Skellefteå Municipality will be on site to provide information on energy and emergency preparedness.
- Contests and trivia quizzes with prizes.

Lecture: The emergency services’ experiences from Ukraine with Per Larsson
Per Larsson is a fire inspector with the Skellefteå emergency services. During the lecture, the audience will follow along on the journey taken when the fire department’s old aerial ladder truck was delivered to Ukraine last year. He will also share his experiences from the collaboration and the support efforts that have been carried out, including donations of rescue equipment.

Presentation by the Home Guard
The Home Guard consists of approximately 22,000 ordinary people who defend Sweden after work. They will discuss their organization and describe, among other things, the application process, on-call duty and requirements for applicants.

Lecture: Emergency preparedness near the front lines in Ukraine with Nenne Johansson
Nenne Johansson is a teacher in the automotive program at Anderstorpsskolan in Skellefteå. He will share his experiences from Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine, where he visited schools, hospitals and other essential community facilities near the front lines. He was there to deliver Skellefteå’s former bookmobile, which had been converted into a mobile health clinic.

Presentation on home preparedness by Svenska Lottakåren
The Swedish Women's Voluntary Defence Organization (Svenska Lottakåren) is Sweden's largest voluntary defence organization for women. They will share advice on home preparedness and explain how you can strengthen your ability to cope with everyday crises and disruptions.
The lectures are free of charge and will be contucted in Swedish.
Preparedness day is organized by Skellefteå Municipality.
The Preparedness Week is an information campaign that takes place in week 39 every year and is led by The Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency (MCF). This year's theme is You are part of Sweden's total defence, where the focus is on highlighting the importance of us all contributing to be able to cope with crises and possible war.
