Industrial automation: pneumatic and electropneumatic systems

This course is aimed at those who want to understand how control technology works in industrial applications.
The course provides basic knowledge to understand and work with pneumatics and electropneumatics. It is suitable for those who are new to the field and want to build a technical foundation for future training or work in automation and mechatronics.
During the course, you will learn the main principles of logic control functions, simple sensors and transducers, such as inductive, capacitive and optical sensors and how they are used. You will also work with relay control of, for example, cylinders and lamps and get an introduction to symbols, designations and markings in pneumatics.
You will gain practical experience of connecting and testing simple control circuits, creating functional descriptions and reading and creating drawings for control systems.
The training starts on condition that the necessary decisions are made.
Eligibility
- You are eligible for adult education from July 1 of the year you turn 20. If you have a final certificate, an upper secondary school diploma or a study certificate from upper secondary school from the Swedish school system, you are eligible even if you are younger than 20.
- Prerequisites to benefit from studies at upper secondary level. For this, you need to have English language skills equivalent to English 5.
- If you do not have a grade at the corresponding level specified in the eligibility criteria, it is possible to prove your knowledge through a level test, read more at Level assessment and follow the instructions.
Structure of the course
The course is conducted in English, and all course materials are in English.
It includes both theoretical and practical components. The practical sessions are often carried out in smaller groups, and your schedule may change on short notice.
Please note that all teaching takes place on-site in Skellefteå. You must be available for in-person studies during daytime hours. Studies are conducted approximately four days per week on campus.
Duration of studies
- The course is full-time and consists of 100 credits at upper secondary level.
- The course starts on May 19, 2025 and ends on June 20, 2025
- The program can be financed with student finance from CSN.
