This course is designed for those who want to understand how process control works in industrial applications. The course provides an introduction to measurement and control technology, focusing on fundamental principles such as PID-control, process regulation, and measurement techniques. The course will give you an introduction on how to control the ABB 800xA system. It is ideal for beginners who want to build a technical foundation for future studies or careers in automation and process control.

During the course, you will work with basic measurement techniques for parameters like temperature, pressure, flow, and level. You will also learn about sensors, relays and pneumatic components such as valves and actuators, their functions, symbols, and adjustments. Additionally, you will gain hands-on experience in signal measurement, risk analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation to develop practical skills for real-world industrial applications.

You will gain hands-on experience in monitoring and controlling processes, understanding diagrams, and enhancing your comprehension of how a process operates.

By combining multiple part-time courses, you can create a full-time study structure that fits your needs. For the period 2025-08-18 to 2025-10-03, it is possible to combine your studies with:

Eligibility

  • You are eligible for adult education from July 1 of the year you turn 20. If you have a final certificate, an upper secondary school diploma or a study certificate from upper secondary school from the Swedish school system, you are eligible even if you are younger than 20.
  • Prerequisites to benefit from studies at upper secondary level. For this, you need to have English language skills equivalent to English 5.
  • If you do not have grades at the corresponding level specified in the eligibility criteria, it is possible to prove your knowledge through a level test, read more at Level assessment and follow the instructions

Structure of the course

The course is conducted in English and the theoretical material is in English. Tutoring is available in English and in Swedish. Besides on-site lessons and labs at VUX, Campus Skellefteå, the course also includes self-studies.

Duration of studies

  • The course is part time and consists of 100 credits at upper secondary level.
  • The course starts 2025-08-18 and ends 2025-10-03.
  • Please observe! The course can be financed with study grants and loans from CSN, part time level 50 percent, if you meet the other conditions for student grants and loans from CSN.
