PLC 2 – Distributed control systems, level 2

The course is based on PLC 1 – Distributed control systems, level 1.
The course is conducted in English. Tutoring is available in English and in Swedish. Use the Swedish flag symbol in the top right corner of your browser to get the Swedish version of the text.
The course provides you with deeper knowledge of programming, with a focus on PLC systems in industrial automation. You will learn how programmable systems interact with hardware and operating systems, and practice using different programming languages in PLC. Physical objects and components are used to provide hands-on understanding of how programming connects to real-world systems.
TIA Portal, SFC, and other programming languages are used to create structured code, troubleshoot programs, and work with user interfaces.
By the end of the course, students should be able to develop and troubleshoot PLC programs, plan and carry out tasks and improve code based on functionality and user needs.
Teaching includes practical exercises and lectures at Campus, Skellefteå and self-studies.

Eligibility
- You are eligible for adult education from July 1 of the year you turn 20. If you have a final certificate, an upper secondary school diploma or a study certificate from upper secondary school from the Swedish school system, you are eligible even if you are younger than 20.
- PLC 2 – Distributed control systems, level 2 is based on PLC 1 – Distributed control systems, level 1 or equivalent course from older school systems. You need to have taken some form of basic course in PLC at upper secondary level or higher.
- Prerequisites to benefit from studies at upper secondary level. For this, you need to have English language skills equivalent to English 5.
- If you do not have grades at the corresponding level specified in the eligibility criteria, it is possible to prove your knowledge through a level test, read more at Level assessment and follow the instructions
Structure of the course
The course is conducted in English and the theoretical material is in English. Tutoring is available in English and in Swedish. Besides on-site lessons and labs at VUX, Campus Skellefteå, the course also includes self-studies.
Duration of studies
- The course is part time and consists of 100 credits at upper secondary level.
- The course starts 2025-11-24 and ends 2026-01-30.
- Please observe! The course can be financed with study grants and loans from CSN, part time level 50 percent, if you meet the other conditions for student grants and loans from CSN.
