What is a fishing license?
The fishing license is a temporary permit for a limited time and a specific area, usually a daily, weekly or annual card. Each fisherman must therefore be able to present a current fishing license together with valid identification. The fishing license is purchased before starting to fish from the local fisheries management area or association, according to their instructions.
Fishing without permission means fishing in waters where someone else has private fishing rights without having obtained permission (e.g. purchased a fishing license). Fishing without permission is a criminal act against the owner of the fishing right. It is a violation of the Fisheries Act and can lead to public prosecution or an inspection fee (fine).
What is the Youth Fishing Card?
If you are under 16 years old, you can discover fishing in hundreds of fishing waters in Skellefteå municipality for free! This is possible thanks to a collaboration with local fishing area associations. With the Youth Fishing License, you can fish in fifteen fishing conservation areas. Keep in mind that the local fishing rules apply.
How to get the Youth Fishing License
You can get the Youth Fishing License free of charge at Skellefteå Tourist Center, which is located on the pedestrian street adjacent to the square in Skellefteå. It is also possible to buy it via the website ifiske.se.
Fishing rules
The rules are there to protect stocks but also to ensure that they can be fished. We all need to follow the rules so that future generations can catch a fish and enjoy a living and functioning ecosystem.
For current rules and questions about fishing in a specific water, select the desired fisheries management area via the map service Naturkartan.se.
For waters that are not part of a fisheries management area, the permission of the fishing rights owner is required before fishing, and you must follow the rules of the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management where these apply.
