Whitefish, Coregonus lavaretus
The tench belongs to the salmonid family. Geographically, it is one of Sweden's most widespread fish species, but the systematics of this species group are complicated and not yet fully understood. Whitefish can live up to 30 years and reach weights of up to 5-6 kg.

Fishing method: The most common method is to peep from the ice, lying on a reindeer trap or a bed. Use a jigging rod with a small moray or nymph and bait with maggot. Fish shallow with careful movements and dare to try different colors to crack the code of the day. Black is almost always good, but suddenly a bright pink or red is in order.
If you want to fish for whitefish in open water during other parts of the year, bottom trawling with worms is a tried and tested method. But the risk of bycatch of perch and other species increases sharply then.
Where and when: On the coast, whitefish patrol in large shoals and during spring winter are often found in bays, or around shoals and shoals, at a depth of half a meter where they swim in search of food. South-facing bays with sandy bottoms are places that whitefish like to go to when spawning in the fall and, not uncommonly, remain around throughout the winter.
The whitefish can be fished directly when the ice settles, but it is perhaps safer, more popular and more relaxing in the spring when the sun shines and the days get longer.
