Reintroduction of trout in the headwaters of Rickleån

Risån and Sikån now get new life in the form of small trout
Objective
Re-establish a viable trout population in the headwaters of Rickleån, which in the long term will benefit both the red-listed river pearl mussel and local sport fishing.
The background
Large parts of our rivers and trout habitats have been destroyed by previous generations. Dams, saws, mills and timber floating have all caused a decline in biodiversity. In an attempt to bring back the trout and a wilder, more vibrant nature, we have restored large parts of the Ris and Sikån rivers. But after several years of hard work, there are still no trout in the rivers and we have now taken the next step. We have started to stock trout fry in selected locations and hope they will establish themselves.
Implementation
In June 2024, the first yearlings were released in the project and in 2025 it is planned that over 100,000 more will have the chance to find a new home in the headwaters of Rickleån.
