A new meeting place emerges at Campus Skellefteå

Education and research play a key role in Skellefteå’s development and in its journey towards the goal of 90,000 residents by 2030. A unique building is being constructed at Campus Skellefteå, where a variety of activities will come together. The building is scheduled for completion in 2027.

To the west of the library at Campus Skellefteå, a new, energy-efficient building is being constructed, covering approximately 8,000 square metres spread over seven floors. The interior will feature open spaces and large glass sections offering views of the Skellefte River. The building will be visible from various locations in Skellefteå, from both bridges to the east and west, to the riverside promenade on the north side of the river.

The new building will serve as a vibrant meeting place, test bed, and laboratory environment for the electrification of society. Among other things, the building will house the Arctic Centre of Energy, a centre of excellence run by Luleå University of Technology, Skellefteå Kraft, and Skellefteå Municipality.

As part of the municipality’s timber construction strategy, the project has high sustainability ambitions. The building is certified to Miljöbyggnad Gold and NollCO2 standards, and aims to use recycled materials to reduce its climate impact. It is also one of the first to be certified under Miljöbyggnad 4.0 and is the first in Norrland to achieve NollCO2 certification.
