A new meeting place emerges on Campus Skellefteå

In Skellefteå's development and towards the goal of 90,000 inhabitants by 2030, education and research have a given place. Plans are now being made for a unique building where several different organisations will interact. Construction begins in 2023 and will be completed at the turn of the year 2025/2026.

On the west side of the library on Campus Skellefteå, a new and energy-smart building is planned, 6000 square meters spread over seven floors. There will be an interior with open spaces and large glass sections with a view of the Skellefte river. The building will be visible from different places in Skellefteå, from both bridges in the east and west to the promenade on the north side of the river.

The new building on Campus Skellefteå will be a vibrant meeting place, test bed and lab environment for society's electrification. The building will be home to the competence center Arctic Center of Energy, which is run by Luleå University of Technology, Northvolt, Skellefteå Kraft, RISE and Skellefteå municipality.

The fact that the building's frame is made of wood is in line with Skellefteå municipality's wood construction strategy and high ambitions for sustainable construction. To quality assure the sustainability ambitions, the building will be certified according to Zero CO2 and Miljöbyggnad level Gold. The building will be one of the first in Sweden to be certified according to Miljöbyggnad's new more comprehensive certification 4.0. The Zero CO2 certification also stands out, being one of the first to be implemented in northern Sweden.
