Family housing for municipal employees

Skellefteå municipality is building 36 initial rental apartments for municipal employees. It will be completed in the spring of 2025.

Skellefteå is growing and the influx of new Skellefteå residents is taking place at a rapid pace, while many real estate stakeholders, based on the external situation, are hesitant to build housing. As a complement to the private stakeholders who are building, and to the housing production that the municipality's real estate company Skebo is working intensively on, Skellefteå municipality is now also planning for 36 rental homes to help manage its own skills supply. The homes will serve as initial accommodation for new employees, preferably with families, in the municipal organization.

The design of the homes provides an efficient construction process so that the first houses can be in place already after the end of the year. They also provide flexibility, meaning that the buildings can be adapted in size and relocated if necessary. They will be of the same high standard as new permanent buildings, but will be built with a 5-year temporary building permit. The buildings will be between two and four storeys high, and the apartments will be 50-60 square meters, divided into one to two bedrooms with kitchen and bathroom. It will be a new family area with play areas, public transport and proximity to services.
