Family housing for municipal employees

Skellefteå municipality is planning for 200 initial rental apartments for municipal employees. It is planned that the first apartments will be completed after the end of 2024.

Skellefteå is growing and the influx of new Skellefteå residents is taking place at a rapid pace, while many real estate stakeholders, based on the external situation, are hesitant to build housing. As a complement to the private stakeholders who are building, and to the housing production that the municipality's real estate company Skebo is working intensively on, Skellefteå municipality is now also planning for 200 rental homes to help manage its own skills supply. The homes will serve as initial accommodation for new employees, preferably with families, in the municipal organization.

The design of the homes provides an efficient construction process so that the first houses can be in place already after the end of the year. They also provide flexibility, meaning that the buildings can be adapted in size and relocated if necessary. They will be of the same high standard as new permanent buildings, but will be built with a 5-year temporary building permit. The buildings will be between two and four storeys high, and the apartments will be 50-60 square meters, divided into one to two bedrooms with kitchen and bathroom. It will be a new family area with play areas, public transport and proximity to services.

Myckle is identified as an area for growth in general and Mycklesågen as a suitable location for this purpose in particular. The location and environment is well suited to families with children of different ages and has good potential for building 200 homes in the near future.

In parallel, planning work is underway for how Myckle can be developed in the longer term with a mixed development in balance with cultural, historical and natural values. The work consists of two parts: a planning program with a strategy for the whole of Myckle, and a detailed plan where the old Mycklesågen is planned as an area for permanent housing. In the fall of 2024, further dialogue will be held on the future development of the site.
