In Skellefteå, Kommunal had given notice to take out employees at Aromköket and members of Kommunal at Östra Navet, i.e. cleaning, on strike from April 18 at 7 a.m. They also gave notice of a blockade against all overtime and extra work and new recruitment in health and social care in Skellefteå municipality. None of these notices will now come into force.

A union can resort to so called industrial actions when they cannot come to an agreement about about a collective agreement with an employer organization. The actions are sanctioned under the constitution and two examples are strike and overtime ban.

In the event of a strike, the union selects a number of strike objects and takes out its members who work there. That means that the affected employees do not go back to work until the strike is over.

At workplaces with collective agreements there are agreed upon terms for pay, employment, working hours, holidays and much more. The agreements are made between the employer organizations and unions and are usually valid 1-3 years. Whenever a collective agreement expires, the employer organizations and unions renegotiate the terms and conditions.
