The quartet where Scandinavia meets South Africa.

The South African pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, signed to the legendary record company Blue Note, and the Swedish tenor saxophonist Karl-Martin Almqvist met in 2014 and together with the Norwegian bassist Magne Thormodsæter and the South African drummer Ayanda Sikade formed the quartet Ababhemu Quartet.

After an acclaimed performance at the Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival 2022, the quartet is now making a long-awaited guest appearance in the county. It will be an afternoon of jazz rooted in a South African tradition and with elements of influences from the American 1960s in the footsteps of McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane.

Nduduzo Makhathini – piano

Karl-Martin Almqvist – saxophone
