The Finnish artist Saara Ekström visits the Museum Anna Nordlander/MAN with the exhibition "Geopsyche" at SARA during the spring.

In her works, Saara Ekström portrays the connection between geological events, evolution, and the subconscious. At the center of the exhibition are the archaic worlds of the Earth's crust, represented by volcanic eruptions, petrified fossils, and caves where early humans have left their traces. Perspectives that evoke both magic and wonder. The exhibition includes "Geopsyche", a film installation from 2023.

The artwork relates to our planet's intricate and breathtakingly slow geological metabolism and explores the consciousness and knowledge preserved in its layers of soil, where human existence represents only a short period of time in future sediments.

Ekström's art is characterized by experiments with various materials and techniques, and the exhibition consists of works created in a diverse range of materials such as clay, stone, bronze, photographs, and moving images.

Saara Ekström (Turku, Finland 1965) installations and photographs have been exhibited in major solo exhibitions since the mid-1990s. Her films, inspired by avant-garde film tradition, have been mentioned at several international film festivals. Ekström has been recognized with awards such as the AVEK Prize for Media Art and nominations for Ars Fennica and the Carnegie Art Award. In 2023, Ekström received the State Prize in Visual Arts from the Finnish State Art Commission.

The exhibition is curated and produced by the Museum Anna Nordlander/MAN External link..
