Torbjörn was born as the youngest of 14 siblings and got his first permanent job as a cleaner at the fan factory in Byske. When he meets Orvar Bergmark in Örebro at the age of 21, his football career seems to be set, but two events put everything on hold and Torbjörn's path is led in a completely different direction.

"He had enough talent to become an elite player in both football and ice hockey. But Torbjörn Hedlund turned down the offers from the elite clubs, and followed his inner voice.

In the book Vägval, Torbjörn talks about his crooked path from the factory floor in Byske to a celebrated orthopedist. It's fascinating reading."
