Sewing Course: Repair, Alter, Sew New from Old
A course for those interested in sewing who want to further develop their skills in all aspects of sewing to be able to independently repair, alter, and create something new from old clothes or leftover fabrics.
During the course, you will work on your own projects that you bring with you to the classes. Perhaps you want to transform grandma's old cotton sheets into a summer dress? Or maybe you have a pair of second-hand tablecloths that you want to sew into a cushion cover?
During the course, you will learn, among other things:
Different sewing techniques
Altering size or fit
Basic pattern construction
Pattern modification
As a course participant, you need to bring your own sewing machine and sewing machine needles. You will also need supplies such as hand sewing needles, pins, a measuring tape, a seam ripper, thread, and your own fabric or project materials. If you do not have your own sewing machine, there are a limited number available to borrow. Please contact us if you need to borrow one.
Being able to sew on a machine and repair, alter, or transform textiles is not only practical but also enriching in many ways. It provides independence and promotes creativity through the opportunity to create something yourself. Repairing textiles reduces environmental impact by extending their lifespan and reducing the need to constantly buy new items. It also saves time and money by allowing you to perform minor repairs and alterations at home instead of using professional services.
You will meet eight Thursdays in a row from 6:00 PM to 8:15 PM, starting October 3nd. During the fifth class (October 31st), the course instructor will be away. This class will be rescheduled to November 28th instead.
Course Instructor: Susanne Holmgren, former store manager at our local textile shop with extensive experience in sewing and textiles
cost: 1600 SEK
