Since 2014, it has been a tradition that Skellefteå municipality invites you to a free lunch lecture in connection with RFSL's Pride Week. On Monday, January 10, Lukas Svärd will be on Stage 1 in Sara Kulturhus. Lukas Svärd, former firefighter, fighter in the armed forces and former elite athlete, was born in the wrong body. Lukas' background gives him a unique insight and experience of the norm, the female and the male that enriches his lectures. “I have recovered from the physical abuse, but the mental abuse I still need to work on,” he says. Lukas Svärd realized at an early age that he was different, he was not like the other boys. He was born a girl. Hate, abuse, bullying and sexual assault were part of his daily life for over 20 years. Despite these trials and the constant struggle against himself and society, he underwent gender reassignment surgery. However, he was not met with the acceptance he hoped for after the procedure, but instead found that he was not welcome because of his background. He talks about the extreme setbacks but also about the will and motivation to move forward and achieve his goals in life. The lecture touches on topics such as how we are affected by other people's treatment, exclusion and how to find motivation to continue forward. But also finding yourself and becoming aware of your own limitations and listening to your inner voice.
The lecture is free of charge, but registration is required. You can register at this link: Pride lecture with Lukas Svärd External link, opens in new window.
