the eternal God walks upon the earth."
— From God in Disguise by Hjalmar Gullberg, 1933
The piece God in Disguise, composed in 1940 with text by poet Hjalmar Gullberg, is one of Lars-Erik Larsson’s most beloved and frequently performed works. Created in the midst of the darkness of World War II, it quickly became a piece that conveyed both comfort and hope. Larsson himself described it as a "lyrical suite," where music and poetry are interwoven into a warm and heartfelt tribute to human dignity, compassion, and the presence of the divine in everyday life.
