Franz Schubert’s Winter Journey (Winterreise), composed in 1827, is one of the most significant song cycles in the history of classical music. The work consists of 24 songs set to texts by poet Wilhelm Müller, and invites the listener to follow the lonely wanderer on his journey through cold and darkness, a journey into the deepest landscapes of human longing, loss, and hope.
