Skellefteå Chamber Orchestra and Skellefteå Chamber Choir invite you to exciting musical experiences under the direction of Kristina Åkesson and Gunnar Jonsson. The highlight of the concert will be Ola Gjeilo's Sunrise Mass.
After many years apart, the two chamber ensembles are once again collaborating in two concerts under the name SUNRISE. The name refers to the main piece of the concert, Sunrise Mass, by Norwegian pianist and composer Ola Gjeilo (born in 1978). This symphonic mass for choir and string orchestra premiered in 2008 and has been described as both lyrical and evocative, with a highly accessible sound. Some have even likened it to a half-hour-long meditation.
In addition to the mass, the chamber choir will perform works by, among others, Urmas Sisask and Simon Åkesson, while the chamber orchestra will present the orchestral suite La Bizarre by Georg Philipp Telemann.
