This operator training provides knowledge and understanding of the requirements placed on sawmills and within the wood processing industry, the subprocesses involved, and what is needed to produce a final product with the correct quality. The training offers knowledge about the industry's significance, function, and dynamics, as well as its measurement and control technology requirements.

Formal qualifications

  • You are eligible for adult education from July 1st of the year you turn 20. If you are younger than 20 years you are eligible to study if you have a final grade from upper secondary school, an upper secondary school diploma or a study certificate from studies in Sweden at the equivalent of upper studies.
  • The education is conducted in English and it is important that you have the appropriate prerequisites to study at upper secondary level. You need to have a passing grade in English 5 or a passing grade in a course on an equivalent level from a different country.

  • You need to reside in Sweden.

The structure of the education

All teacher-led instruction takes place on-site in Skellefteå with elements of distance learning. During the training period, theory lessons are alternated remotely and on-site. Self-study involves taking part in web-based educational films as well as course literature and other materials. 5 weeks of the training are workplace-based, where the student carries out the practical parts at a company.
The training has no breaks and is a total of 18 weeks long. 13 weeks of theoretical lessons including self-study, and 5 weeks of internship at a company.
The internship can be carried out at companies in Västerbotten and Norrbotten counties. The education is conducted both digitally and on-site in Skellefteå. Approximately 70% digitally, the remaining 30% on-site.

Start and stop date for the education

  • The education is full-time and includes 500 credits at upper secondary level
  • The training takes place between 2025-05-05 – 2025-09-05

The education can be financed with study grants and loans from CSN.

Own costs for the education

You pay yourself for course materials as well as for travel and accommodation for lab sessions or APL in another location.
The employer provides work clothes, but the course participant is responsible for steel-toed shoes.

You need access to your own computer for self-study.
