Battery production

The first phase of Northern Europe's largest lithium-ion battery production plant is now complete in Skellefteå. Northvolt, whose goal is to build the world's greenest batteries with minimal carbon emissions, is the company that has chosen to locate its battery factory here. Access to renewable electricity, deep-water ports, locally produced metals and recycling of the batteries will enable the world's greenest batteries and in turn contribute to Europe's transition to renewable energy. Ground was broken in summer 2018 and production will be fully developed by 2023. The large-scale factory in Skellefteå will be able to produce batteries with a total capacity of 60 GWh per year when fully developed.
