Recruitment event

Recruited via P.S Saknar dig - working in Skellefteå four months later

A little palt. A very good meeting. And a competence and personality that fit perfectly into a team. In just four months, Sai Krishna went from a visit to P.S. Saknar dig to a job as a mechanical engineer at Metso in Skellefteå.

Sai Krishna is originally from India, but has lived and studied in Sweden for three years and has a master's degree from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. His English is perfect and his Swedish is slowly but surely coming into place. Since March, he has been working as a mechanical engineer at Metso in Skellefteå. And it all started at Skellefteå and Piteå municipality's joint recruitment event at Skansen in late November 2023.

- I got an email from Jobbsprånget saying there would be an event. I googled the event and saw: "Wow, they miss me!" so I thought this is something I have to check out, he says and laughs.

Once on site at Skansen, he feels that he immediately got to see much of what northern Sweden has to offer.

- It's a cozy event where you get to see what culture is like in the north. But there are also many opportunities to expand your contact network and meet many people and companies. I got to experience the culture and eat palt. It looked a bit weird at first, but then I got jam with it so it was good. I really enjoyed the event. There were many companies there and I shared my experience with them, then I met a representative from Wikan Personal and now I'm here in Skellefteå, he says, smiling.

The representative was Irma Öhlund, recruitment consultant at Wikan. She brought with her to the event a job ad for a mechanical engineer at Metso.

- He was very nice and made a very good impression on me, says Irma and continues:

- That's what's so great about events like P.S. Saknar dig. That you get a first impression of a person. You don't just see a CV or a cover letter. It makes the next step much easier if you can establish that it's a good person that you can move forward with right away. Sai stood out too. We had a great conversation and since the ad was already out there, I encouraged him to check out the company Metso and I would also pull some strings from my side, and then contact him again.

Sai looked up Metso and the job ad.

- It reminded me of the project I did for my master's and it seemed like an interesting company, so I thought, 'Why not?

Thinking about moving north was no problem. Sai had heard a lot about the city through two friends who already lived there.

Then everything happened very quickly.

- We had a first interview via teams in December. Then you came here in January, right after the Christmas holidays. And then there was a lot of winter," says Elisabeth Lundmark, Head of Mechanical Engineering at Metso, and smiles.

- I remember looking at one of the snow piles and thinking that if I jumped into one of them, I would disappear, he says, laughing again.

In March 2024, Sai started at Metso and he thinks he has settled in well. He thinks the nature is amazing and there is a lot to do. He has also made new friends through his job.

Elisabeth Lundmark is very happy that Sai Krishna and Irma Öhlund found each other on P.S Saknar dig.

- When Irma told me that she had met Sai and that he was a breath of fresh air, I thought we should meet him. We also look at how likely the person is to stay in Skellefteå. In Sai's case, he had all the education he needed, the projects he had done were very good and appropriate, he had hobbies on the side, a life simply. Sai was very positive about the city, he already had two friends here and he led an active life. We also felt that he would fit in well with the team. It was perfect that Irma found him. Or that they found each other.

She emphasizes that personality is very important when working in a team.

- So being able to meet a person face-to-face like on P.S. Saknar dig is very important and helpful. After I met Sai, I went to our HR and asked why he hadn't been to P.S. and he replied that he was supposed to be there, but things just kept happening," she says, smiling.

She also highlights another aspect of the event that she thinks is important.

- We who operate as technology companies in Skellefteå cannot keep circulating staff from other companies in the industry such as Boliden, Skellefteå Kraft and others. We need more people to move here and should therefore not steal staff from others, it is not sustainable in the long run, everyone needs each other here. This is a very important aspect for events like P.S. Saknar dig.
