How can we strengthen Sweden's capacity to attract and expand businesses?

Business start-ups and expansions are crucial to Sweden's competitiveness and the green transition. At the same time, they place high demands on municipalities, regions, and authorities—not least in terms of reception capacity, coordination, and the ability to scale social development in line with investments.

Success requires a holistic approach. Coordinated community planning, efficient permitting processes, and long-term investments in infrastructure, housing, skills provision, and community services are key elements in creating attractive and sustainable locations for investment.

How do we create the conditions for welcoming large establishments – while ensuring that social development keeps pace with the rate of investment?

On June 4–5, 2026, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, in collaboration with SKR, is organizing a national conference as part of Society Expo 2026 in Skellefteå. The conference will bring together officials from municipalities, regions, and authorities to jointly explore the entire investment journey—from early strategic choices and preparations, through meetings with entrepreneurs, to long-term sustainable structures after investment decisions have been made.

The program includes experience-based input from practitioners, interactive workshops for joint learning, and networking between colleagues and experts. The Acceleration Office will participate and present, among other things, the interim report on municipal incentives to attract and receive business establishments and expansions.

The conference also includes a review of the external environment from a geopolitical perspective. How do global trends, EU preparedness, and the green transition affect the conditions for investment promotion work in Sweden?

Through knowledge exchange and collaboration, we are working together to strengthen Sweden's capacity to receive future investments.
