Pupils at Teknikprogrammet (The Program for Technology) at Balderskolan and Solkraft are developing new environmental monitoring stations

Creating environments that make it easy to do the right thing is an important part of a sustainable society. Ahead of Society Expo 2026, Teknikprogrammet at Balderskolan and Solkraft are therefore collaborating to develop new environmental stations for use at the event site. Through this project, pupils get to work on a real-world assignment where design, function, and user-friendliness take center stage, while the result contributes to a more sustainable Skellefteå.

In this project, the pupils have come up with creative and innovative ideas that prioritize accessibility and inclusion. This is evident in everything from the design of the information to the layout of the stations – for example, with waste bins placed at heights that work for children, adults, and people who use wheelchairs.

The actual construction of the stations is being carried out by Solkraft, which, through its upcycling and carpentry operations, provides meaningful work for people who are outside the regular labor market. By having Solkraft build the stations, the project also gains a clear local connection and draws on the skills and experience available within the organization.

This project demonstrates how education, social initiatives, and community development can converge toward a shared goal: creating a more inclusive, creative Skellefteå where more people can participate in shaping the solutions of the future.
