Train Day drew a crowd of curious visitors interested in the future of rail travel
Train whistles, curious visitors, and discussions about the future of travel. During Train Day, people of all ages gathered in downtown Skellefteå to learn more about the Norrbotnia Line and the role the railway will play for people, businesses, and community development in northern Sweden.
Throughout the day, the focus was on the railway of the future, as visitors had the opportunity to meet stakeholders involved in the planning and development of the Norrbotnia Line. Interest was high, and many took the opportunity to ask questions about everything from route selection and construction to how the railway can contribute to increased accessibility and sustainable development.
One of the day’s most popular attractions was the trains that Norrtåg had brought to Skellefteå for the event. Visitors of all ages had the chance to climb aboard, explore the trains, and visit the driver’s cabs. For many children, it was a memory for a lifetime when they got to try sounding the train’s horn and hear the signal echo across the area.

The municipalities along the Norrbotnia Line were on site to share their plans for the future as the railway is expanded. In Skellefteå Municipality’s tent, visitors could learn about the plans for the municipality’s future travel center, while the youngest visitors drew pictures of trains and built their own railways.
Länstrafiken and Skellefteå Buss also participated during the day and demonstrated how different modes of transport can work together to contribute to a more sustainable and accessible transportation system.
Train Day was organized by the Norrbotniabanan Group in conjunction with Society Expo 2026 and served as a meeting place for discussions about future mobility, regional development, and the opportunities that the Norrbotniabanan creates for all of northern Sweden.
