Society Expo attracts visitors from all over the world

Since the opening of Society Expo 2026 on May 28, visitors from around the world have gathered in Skellefteå to attend conferences, meetings, exhibitions, and discussions about the societies of the future.

So far, participants from 29 different countries have been registered among the registered visitors.

“We currently have visitors from 29 different countries registered among those who have signed up, which is really exciting to see. This is exactly the breadth of perspectives and the exchange of knowledge we want to create through Society Expo,” says Helena Renström, project manager for Society Expo 2026.

The hotel industry is also noticing the high level of interest. According to figures from Visit Skellefteå, hotels in central Skellefteå have had an average occupancy rate of 82 percent during Society Expo 2026. The corresponding figure for the same period during the years 2022–2025 was 59 percent.

Among the international visitors is a delegation from Okayama University in Japan. During their visit, they are exchanging experiences with stakeholders in Skellefteå regarding work with children and young people who are struggling in school.

During the first few days, Society Expo has offered a wide-ranging program focusing on some of the major social issues of our time. The program has covered everything from culture, AI, and technological development to crisis preparedness, recycling, and sustainable social transformation.

“Social transformation is complex and touches on many different areas. That’s why we wanted to create a program that brings together people with different experiences, knowledge, and perspectives.” The hope is that visitors will find new ideas, contacts, and collaborations that can contribute to development long after Society Expo is over,” says Helena Renström.

Society Expo 2026 runs through June 9. Complete figures for hotel occupancy and attendance will be compiled after the event concludes.
