How do we best meet the skills challenges and opportunities that arise in a constantly changing world? The answer lies in new ways of learning, developing and collaborating.
Skellefteå Universities Alliance is a foundation formed in 2025 by Nornan Invest, Skellefteå Municipality and Skellefteå Kraft with a clear goal: to create flexible and accessible education that meets the skills needs of tomorrow.
By developing Campus Skellefteå into a dynamic knowledge hub with both global reach and strong local anchoring, Skellefteå Universities Alliance will contribute to increasing the supply of higher education and driving innovation in the future of learning - both locally and nationally.
New ways of learning make learning a tool for real change
The future of learning requires new forms of education and environments that foster creativity and development. Skellefteå Universities Alliance wants to inspire lifelong learning. Everyone should have access to education models that are innovative, flexible and inclusive - to suit both the needs of the individual - and what is in demand in the labor market.
Skellefteå Universities Alliance will be an obvious meeting place where students, researchers, companies and social actors work together on concrete solutions to the most important challenges of our time. Skellefteå Universities Alliance wants to make learning a tool for real change - by challenging traditional ways of thinking and by acting together.
Skellefteå - a unique test bed for innovative education models
Skellefteå is the perfect place to develop and test these new education models. The region is in the midst of a major green industrial transition, with strong growth in sectors such as sustainable energy, wood technology and future mineral extraction. Along with the rapid technological development, there is a great need for new skills.
Skellefteå has a long tradition of entrepreneurship, daring to try new things and close collaboration between business, academia and society. This makes the location a unique basis for testing and refining new ideas and methods.

Skellefteå Universities Alliance addresses societal challenges related to skills supply and social sustainability. In an era of rapid technological development and major societal changes, there is a growing need for new skills, while at the same time more people need to be given the opportunity to participate in lifelong learning. SUA meets this need by developing flexible and accessible education models that strengthen individuals' opportunities for participation, establishment, and development in society.
The project accelerates social development by challenging traditional structures for higher education and creating new forms of collaboration between academia, industry, and society. Campus Skellefteå serves as a test bed where new educational models can be developed, tested, and adapted in close dialogue with the needs of the labor market. This enables a faster transition from need to competence and makes learning an active tool in social development.
Locally, SUA contributes to strengthening Campus Skellefteå as a knowledge hub and meeting place, which increases its attractiveness for students, employers, and residents alike. Regionally, the project strengthens the supply of skills in strategically important industries linked to the green transition. Nationally, SUA serves as a model for how new forms of higher education and collaboration can be developed.
