Arctic Center of Energy (ACE)
ACE is a global center of excellence accelerating the electrification of society. Through research, education and innovation, it develops the knowledge and solutions needed to succeed in the energy transition.
Based in Skellefteå, ACE brings together actors from academia, business and the public sector - to jointly shape the energy system of the future.
ACE Powerhouse - the hub for future energy solutions
The ACE Powerhouse will be the physical and symbolic core of ACE's operations. The seven-storey, 8,300 square meter wooden building is being constructed on Campus Skellefteå and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
Designed as a living test bed for the energy systems of the future, the building will contain:
- Laboratories for research in direct current technology and digital twins
- Flexible environments for training, collaboration and offices
- Event spaces and restaurant
- Integrated solar and wind energy systems with energy storage
- Recycled materials - including details from the old Skellefteå hospital
The ACE Powerhouse is being built to be certified according to Miljöbyggnad Gold and NollCO2, reflecting high ambitions in sustainability, energy efficiency and circularity.

Collaboration between academia and business
ACE strengthens Skellefteå's position as a leading energy region. New jobs are created, skills development is promoted and the region is made more attractive for both investments, collaborations and skills in the sector. In the long run, the project contributes to a social development where sustainability is not a goal - but a natural approach.
