Crisis readiness together – strengthened preparedness and community spirit
Krisredo tillsammans (Crisis Preparedness Together) is an area-based development project in which the Red Cross in Skellefteå brings together residents, local actors, and volunteers to increase knowledge, security, and resilience. Through training, dialogue, and meetings, local preparedness is created – and stronger social cohesion.
Krisredo tillsammans (Crisis Preparedness Together) is an initiative that aims to strengthen local crisis preparedness in residential areas, focusing on areas where socioeconomic conditions vary and where there is a great need for increased security, knowledge, and solidarity. The project is based on the Red Cross' humanitarian mission: to prevent and alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, and contribute to socially sustainable communities—always based on neutrality, impartiality, and voluntary action.
The work is carried out close to the residents
By being present in areas such as Boliden, Byske, and Morö Backe, the project creates accessible meeting places where people can learn about first aid, home preparedness, crisis communication, and psychological preparedness. Training is combined with dialogue, practical exercises, and open meetings –always adapted to the participants' needs, language, and circumstances.

The foundation is collaboration
The Red Cross works to engage associations, recreation centers, schools, housing companies, libraries, religious communities, and many others who are already important providers of security in their areas. Together, we reach different groups – young people, the elderly, parents of young children, people born abroad, and people who rarely meet in everyday life. When people get to know each other, both trust and local preparedness are strengthened.
The project is already contributing to positive changes. Participants say that they dare to act in the event of accidents, that they have packed their first emergency kit, or that they have met neighbors they have never spoken to before. For many, this means a sense of empowerment: not being alone if something happens. In the long term, the goal is a Skellefteå where more residential areas have strong local networks and where people, regardless of background, feel safe, involved, and equipped to deal with crises. The project also lays the foundation for continued activities – with volunteerism, local collaborations, and the stable presence of the Red Cross as the supporting structure.
Krisredo together shows that preparedness is something we build together. When knowledge,
community, and trust grow, so does security.
