Fuzed – the meeting place that combines gaming and exercise

When Fuzed opened in January 2026, Skellefteå gained a new type of meeting place for young people – an arena where physical activity and gaming come together. The basic idea is simple: to get playing time, you first have to exercise. The goal is to create a more sustainable screen culture, strengthen public health, and give young people a safe and fun leisure time.

The concept has been successful in other locations and has been given a unique character in Skellefteå thanks to its location in an existing sports facility – the C Hall in Eddahallen. This creates a natural mix of traditional sports and open activity environments.

"Here, young people can have fun together – in a safe environment where digital culture and physical activity meet," says Marie Bergslycka, chair of the leisure committee.

The facility has everything from gaming computers and console games to dance mats, ping pong tables, and sports areas, and is run as a free recreation center for middle and high school students. Adults are on site to create a safe environment and support young people in both gaming and physical activity.

The need for a place like Fuzed has been clear in Skellefteå. Both young people themselves and forums such as the youth council have long called for an environment for gaming and e-sports. The initiative is also part of the municipality's efforts to combat increasing sedentary lifestyles and loneliness among young people – while taking their digital interests seriously.

Ungdomar på Fuzed

Fuzed is run in close collaboration between the municipality and the company behind the concept. The municipality provides staff for the activities, while Fuzed is responsible for technology, operations, and support.

Interest has been high from the start, and according to Fuzed itself, the establishment in Skellefteå has had a broad impact on both young people and the media – something they describe as confirmation of the great need for this type of meeting place.

Fuzed is therefore more than just a gaming center. It is part of Skellefteå's broader commitment to active, sustainable, and inclusive leisure activities.

During Society Expo, Fuzed will be one of the program items at the conference Culture and leisure – the power of tomorrow's society , which will be held on June 2–4.

Questions and answers about the project

Physical inactivity is one of the greatest challenges of our time, while mental health issues among young people are on the rise. More and more people are becoming less active, which is why Fuzed encourages exercise while also contributing to safer screen time for the city's youth. We believe that this place can be a positive addition to young people's everyday lives, an initiative where young people can develop their interests in a safe environment, together with attentive adults.

We expect to reach a new target group of young people who have not previously visited our traditional meeting places. We can already see that the place attracts children and young people from across the municipality. The aim of the project is to create a meeting place for young people where they have the opportunity to develop healthy habits, strengthen social cohesion, and develop their gaming and physical activity skills in a safe environment with adults present. In the long term, the project hopes to contribute to improved public health and meaningful leisure activities for more people.

The project contributes to making Skellefteå a pleasant place to live by providing an accessible and inclusive meeting place. The venue helps to create meaningful leisure activities for young people today, but it also helps to establish healthy habits that young people can carry with them throughout their lives.
