Keep walking
How can walking play a greater role in the society of the future? This is what the project Keep walking explores, which with foresight and dialog wants to challenge how we see walking and mobility in a growing and sustainable Skellefteå.

Keep walking is a project within Society Expo 2026 and is carried out within the framework of the call Places of the Future - future visions for attractive, accessible and sustainable communities. The call is part of ShiftSweden External link., a national program within Impact Innovation - Sweden's major initiative for sustainable transition. The project also has links to the Wasteland art and culture park.
Keep walking is carried out by Skellefteå municipality together with the research institute RISE and the communication agency Futurniture. The project uses foresight as a method to gather knowledge, analyze trends and create future scenarios around walking as part of future mobility. The aim is to understand what can hinder or promote walking and develop solutions that make it easier and more attractive to walk, even in a municipality where the car is often necessary.
- The question is how we can simultaneously make walking a bigger part of everyday life and make it easier and more attractive for more people to walk whenever possible, says Michaela Bondesson, Development Manager for Society Expo 2026.

Facts about ShiftSweden
ShiftSweden is an innovation program within Impact Innovation, Sweden's innovation initiative for the 2030s, an initiative of the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas and Vinnova.
ShiftSweden's work is based on its mission to transform Sweden, fossil-free and resource-conscious, into attractive and accessible living environments for everyone.
To achieve the mission, they work with three shifts:
- From resource-intensive linear construction processes to sustainable and value-creating circular business models.
- From unsustainable transportation to a new freedom reform with competitive alternatives to individual car travel.
