SEE Future Challenge is part of the larger SEE Future initiative. The project engages children and students from preschool to high school and invites them to participate in challenges, dialogues, and creative assignments related to the development of Skellefteå Municipality. Through collaboration between schools, municipal administrations, the business community, and the public sector, education and real social challenges are linked, and young people are given the opportunity to contribute ideas and perspectives. This is done, for example, through challenges linked to the curriculum or via the youth council.
The aim is to strengthen young people's participation, responsibility, and influence, as well as to give them the tools to think in new ways and actively participate in the development of society. The starting point is that children and young people are co-creators of Skellefteå's future.

The project also acts as a bridge between youthful energy and concrete development opportunities. Giving children and young people the opportunity to influence and participate in a meaningful way strengthens both participation and optimism among the participants.
In the long term, SEE Future Challenge wants to establish a sustainable model for young people's participation and co-creation in Skellefteå Municipality. The goal is for them to feel that their ideas matter, that they have a real impact and that they can contribute to the development of society, and that the society of the future is being built together with them.

In the project, children and students contribute solutions to the societal challenges that Society Expo 2026 focuses on: housing supply, social sustainability, mobility, skills supply, and climate and environment.
Housing supply: Where should people live? How can we build homes that are good for both people and nature?
Social sustainability: What makes people feel safe and happy where they live?
Mobility: How can we get around—walking, cycling, taking the bus—in a way that is kind to the environment?
Skills supply: What do you want to be when you grow up, and what jobs will be needed in the future?Climate and environment: How can we take care of nature while the city grows?
SEE Future Challenge accelerates the transition by:
- Integrating children and young people as active co-creators, not passive recipients – a method that broadens perspectives and creates a high level of creativity and a sense of participation. An important factor for learning.
- Linking school learning to real societal challenges, which means that ideas and insights can be taken directly into the municipality's work.
- Creating new arenas for dialogue and collaboration between schools, municipalities, civil society, and the business community.
The project thus facilitates knowledge transfer about the society of the future.
