Society Summit
Society Summit is an annual conference that addresses the challenges facing Sweden's municipalities in a tangible way. It brings together representatives from several municipalities together with researchers, business and civil society actors to shape the sustainable societies of the future.
The aim is to enlighten, educate, inspire and network around how our communities can continue to grow in a responsible and sustainable way. The Society Summit serves as a platform to discuss and implement solutions to the common challenges our communities face.
Skellefteå - a natural place for collaboration
Skellefteå is facing a rapid and extensive societal transformation characterized by industrial growth and high sustainability goals. Society Summit addresses the need for collaboration and knowledge exchange to navigate this change. As the conference brings together actors from all over the country, it creates a common understanding of how the conditions for meeting future challenges differ from municipality to municipality. This in turn provides a clearer picture of which concrete strategies are most effective in achieving the goals.

Structure of the conference
During the conference (2025), eight separate cases were presented. Each case addressed specific societal challenges such as safe classrooms, non-profit public partnerships, collaboration between schools and working life, and strengthening the business community. Each case involved ten municipalities, with two participants from each municipality - a model that created good conditions for constructive discussions and exchange of experience.
During the first of the two days of the conference, participants focused on understanding and learning from the solutions presented. The second day focused on how the new knowledge could be translated and implemented in practice in the participants' own organizations.
First year of Society Summit Youth
The 2025 conference was special with the premiere of the Society Summit Youth - a chance to get a younger perspective. This time, 20 committed secondary school youth were invited from across the region. The aim was to discuss, develop and present concrete proposals to strengthen the mental health of young people. Questions and answers about the Society Summit
Participants include representatives from municipalities, researchers, startups, psychologists, teachers, procurers, suppliers, architects and students. A diversity that provides a diversity in terms of both perspective and expertise. Together, they all contribute to a holistic approach to community development.
The 2025 edition took place on 27-28 May at Campus Skellefteå. The 2026 edition is planned and will be announced in connection with the program for Society Expo 2026.
The Society Summit is an integral part of Society Expo 2026 and supports Skellefteå's 2030 strategy by promoting sustainable community development and collaboration between different actors. The conference acts as a catalyst to identify and implement solutions that contribute to an inclusive and sustainable future for Skellefteå and its residents.
