Electrification of cities and communities is becoming increasingly important as we strive towards a more sustainable and resilient future. We explore how innovations in electrification are changing the way we live, work and interact with each other in everyday life and the opportunities and challenges this presents for creating liveable, equitable and sustainable living environments.

Extraordinary social transformation in the north

The extraordinary social transformation in northern Sweden will require extraordinary solutions. Skellefteå, as a municipality, a place and a living environment, is the first to lead the largest social growth in modern times. What does leadership look like in future community building? What conditions exist and what are missing to drive development in the right direction and become a model for social transformation for more places in Sweden, Europe and the world?

Future residents of northern Sweden

Population and labor shortages are some of the biggest challenges to enable industrial development and societal transformation in northern Sweden. How can we use our industrial history, today's long-term unemployment, our European network and other tools to build the future in the north? What non-traditional solutions need to be put in place to enable the northernmost parts of the country to contribute to Sweden's and Europe's growth over time?

The role of small businesses in the transformation era

Over the last 30 years, 80% of jobs in Sweden have been created by small businesses. The role of small businesses and local entrepreneurs cannot be underestimated in the expansion potential of northern Sweden and the discussion on how to create attractive communities. How is the ecosystem affected by a large establishment? What opportunities are created and what conditions need to be in place?
