GUIDE
Find bargains this summer: 5 advice from the flea market pro
With the summer, flea markets are popping up one by one - a perfect opportunity to find both good and cheap bargains. Thea Holmqvist, aka Västerdrottningen External link, opens in new window., knows a lot about reuse and lists five advice for those who are going on a second-hand trip.
1. Write a list
It's easy to forget to look for a tea strainer if you're also looking for boots, a ceiling light and picture frames in three different sizes.
2. Take the measurements in advance
It's super annoying to find a sofa and not know if it fits at home. Make a simple sketch for each room and you'll be safe even for spontaneous finds.
3. Dare to make a change
Repaint, change the fittings, re-sew. Dare to think outside the box: maybe that flowerpot will make a cool lamp if you turn it upside down?
4. Ignore trends
Do your thing. If you're always chasing the trendy decor, you'll soon be back in search of something “new”. Start from your needs and your own style, build up and complement.
5. Ask the flea market owner
It can feel overwhelming to check every nook and cranny sometimes. Often they know if, and where, what you are looking for is somewhere.

An old mailbox became the perfect storage for the mixed flea china in the kitchen.
Explore Skellefteå's flea markets
You've got everything you need to know for a summer of bargains - all that's missing are the flea markets. With this quick guide, it will be easier to know how to look.
Do your research: When it comes to bargains, buying and selling sites are your best friend. The biggest ones are on Facebook, where many individuals advertise local yard sales. There may also be information about specific items: a perfect way to find what you're looking for faster. Larger yard sale events are often advertised in print, so keep an eye out in the newspaper and stop by the notice board when you're out and about.
Dare to stop: During the summer months, Skellefteå's country roads and residential areas are full of hand-painted open signs. Maybe you are on your way home from the beach and see one by the roadside? Of course you should stop! If the stuff are set up at the driveway, it may well be self-service through swish that applies - so don't be afraid to get out of the car even though no one seems at home.
If there is one, there are (usually) more: Many villages around Skellefteå organize special days where local residents join together and offer flea markets in several farms at the same time. A good idea is therefore to ask the flea market owner you are with if there may be more in the area. You might even be able to find out where it is usually best?
