Events to look out for this summer
Summer in Skellefteå offers music, street parties and experiences to suit all tastes. From major festivals and beach football to archipelago concerts and rock nights, June, July and August are packed with events that attract both visitors and locals alike.
JUNE: Summertime Skellefteå Music & Life Festival
Visit one of the summer’s major music and lifestyle festivals, which over the years has grown into one of the region’s most popular events. The festival takes place at the Norrvalla festival grounds, and for a couple of days, the area is filled with live music, culinary experiences, activities, and socializing of all kinds. Here, established artists share the stage with emerging talents and diverse musical styles, creating a variety that attracts many.
JULY: Skellefteå Beach Soccer
A July day at Boviken’s seaside resort can mean more than just sun and swimming. Beach Soccer is a popular summer event, a community celebration where beach soccer and summer fun go hand in hand. Here, both those who want to play with a group of friends and those who’d rather sit in the sun and cheer on others can find their place. The tournament features divisions for women, men, recreational players, and youth of all ages, and there are usually fun side activities for the whole family. It’s free to come and watch, and the atmosphere alone is worth a visit to the beach on a July day.

JULY: Örock
Music, community, and the archipelago setting come together on the small island of Gåsören just outside Skelleftehamn. The easiest way to get there is by water taxi from Kurjoviken Marina, and the boat ride itself is part of the experience. The music usually starts in the afternoon and features a mix of local bands, accordion tunes, and a varied repertoire that typically appeals to both seasoned concertgoers and those looking for an evening in the company of good friends. Many bring a blanket or chair and settle down near the stage as the sun slowly sets over the waters of the Bothnian Bay. During the breaks, there’s plenty of time to wander around, grab a grilled hamburger, or simply enjoy the surroundings on this archipelago island.
JULY: Music at Bryggarbacken
As evening light falls over central Skellefteälven, Bryggarbacken fills with live music and people who stop for a while. Throughout July, four free concerts attract both die-hard music fans and passersby who stop for a moment. The program features various artists and bands taking the stage, with music spanning multiple genres and appealing to a broad audience. With free admission and an accessible setup, it’s an event well worth planning for—or discovering on a whim—during a bright July evening in town.

JULY: Skråmträsk Country Festival
In Skråmträsk, 20 kilometers outside Skellefteå, a summer evening of country music and community awaits. The festival takes place around a large outdoor stage where both local talent and more established country artists come together under the open sky, with music from early evening well into the wee hours. The festival is held at the Skråmträsk Saloon area and combines music with food, socializing, and a summer vibe.
Medieval Days at Kyrkholmen
For three days in July, Kyrkholmen in Skellefteå transforms into a living historical setting with a market, music, jousting, and battles. Medieval Days, taking place July 9–11, is a vibrant festival for the whole family where play, crafts, and adventure come together. Children can participate in heroic games, and adults are drawn to mysteries. An atmospheric experience for both young and old. The event is organized by the medieval society Reengarda.

AUGUST: Tribute to Rock
At the end of summer, Guldtorget will be filled with rock classics and live music when the touring rock festival Tribute to Rock stops in Skellefteå. The festival is part of Sweden’s largest tribute band concept, where musicians pay homage to iconic rock acts through well-known songs and energetic performances. The festival is open to everyone and admission is free. On site, you’ll find large stages, live music all day long, food and drink areas, and a mix of audiences from different generations gathering around rock classics—from Queen and AC/DC to Metallica and other big names covered by the tribute bands.
