The outdoor shelters you can't miss
Around Skellefteå there are many shelters, easily accessible for both those who want to park nearby and those who like to walk a bit. Lighting a fire, drinking hot chocolate and listening to the crackle of the fire attracts both young and old. Here you will find tips on great places to visit and inspiration for cooking outside in the winter cold.
Boliden
At either end of Sidtjärn, in the middle of Boliden, there are two windbreaks, and another just a stone's throw away. Walk from the center of Boliden or park at Bolidengården and then take a short walk to one of the shelters.
Burträsk
Just south of Burträsk on the road to Bygdsiljum, on the western slope of Kvarnberget, a bit up the hill - you will find Mullebo. A windbreak that comes in handy with its nice location. The best place to park is at the old ski lodge 400 meters from Bygdsiljumvägen.
Byske
In Byske you will find three shelters along the beach at the sea bath. Here we promise a beautiful sea view both summer and winter. You can park at Byske camping's parking lot and then take a short walk down to the sea and the windbreaks.
Falkträsket
Falkträsket is a lake along a mountain south of Sunnanå. Here, adjacent to the bathing area, there is a windbreak located next to the lake. It is a popular place both in summer and winter and you can park here in the parking lots belonging to the bathing area.
Lövånger
About 900 meters south of Lövånger is Kyrksjön. A popular outdoor area with many lighted trails, windbreaks and outhouses. The best place to park is on the eastern side of the lake by the large picnic shelter on Dahlepilhs väg.
Medlefors/Mobacken
There are several shelters along the north-eastern side of the river, both at the end of Medlefors and near the Mobacken dam. You can get here by car, walking or cycling. Parking is available both up by Mobackenkyrkan and down by the riverside.
Vitberget
At Vitberget, our nature area close to the city, there are several shelters adjacent to the slope and along the hiking and skiing trails. There is also an accessible shelter with a dry toilet by the pond at the top of the mountain. You can park next to the ski slope, up by the ski tracks, at the pistol shooting range, but best of all, you can walk here from the center of town in just a few minutes.

Cooking over an open fire - easy, delicious and cozy
Cooking outside doesn't have to be complicated. Quite the contrary! Food nerd and outdoor enthusiast Stina Renström shares some simple tricks to make the meal one of the highlights of the outing.
Prepare at home - prepare scrambled eggs, waffle batter or chop vegetables before you pack your backpack. Outside, it's best to just heat, fry or assemble. Use bread as a base - pita, flatbread or levain work for everything from hot sandwiches to wraps. And a single frying pan goes a long way - you can cook almost anything in it.

Stina's best tips for excursion food
- Hamburgers in tortilla bread
Season the minced meat with salt and pepper and pack it in a lunch box. Include medium-sized tortillas, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and onion. Outside, flatten the minced meat directly on the bread and fry in oil. Top with vegetables and dressing - done! - Leftovers become a feast
Do you have leftover lunch boxes? Perfect excursion food! I once brought cabbage rolls that I fried on an open fire, topped with frozen lingonberries and it became a really luxurious dish. - Bratwurst in bread
A classic that always works. Fry bratwurst and serve with sauerkraut in a good bread - simple but very good. - Tuna melt
Prepare a tasty tuna melt at home, grate cheese and butter the bread slices. Outside, assemble the sandwiches and fry them. Press a little with a spatula and the cheese inside will melt - magic! - Waffles over a fire
Bring a waffle iron for fire and bake classic waffles with jam and cream as dessert. Or make a luxury version with Västerbottensost cheese in the batter, topped with smetana, chopped onions and rum.
