Boliden is a place with a cohesive small town character, unique cultural history, and proximity to services, nature and recreation. There are plans for more housing, workplaces and preschools in Boliden, as well as the development of existing meeting places.
Residents of Boliden should be able to live and develop in an inviting, safe and well thought-out living environment with nature on their doorstep. Boliden will continue to be a vibrant industrial town with good infrastructure so that it is easy to get to, from and within the town. New housing will strengthen Boliden's character and identity, and there will be safe, accessible meeting places for everyone during the different seasons of the year.

Skellefteå kommun håller på att ta fram en ny fördjupad översiktsplan för Boliden. Syftet med planen är att ta fram en framtidsvision utifrån Bolidenbornas önskemål, behov och förutsättningar och presentera förslag på långsiktigt hållbar tätortsutveckling.
Planen beskriver hur Skellefteå kommun önskar att utvecklingen i Boliden ska se ut och hur samspelet med Boliden och staden ska fungera.

Det är människorna och drivkraften på en plats som gör den stora skillnaden och som kan få en plats att utvecklas. Därför vill kommunen uppmuntra och underlätta för lokala initiativ och drivkrafter i Boliden. Samt underlätta samverkan mellan företag, föreningar, privatpersoner och det offentliga.
