Strong student projects rewarded - Sammes Foundation invests over one million

This summer, 27 students at Campus Skellefteå will share over SEK 1 million in grants from the Sammes Foundation. In total, there are 14 projects on the agenda, ranging from hydrogen-powered drones to visualization of architecture. The aim is to strengthen the link between education, business and future innovations.

- "This year we have a very exciting group of scholarship holders with projects that really show the breadth of what is happening at Campus Skellefteå," says Jörgen Markgren at the Sammes Foundation.

The scholarship makes it possible for students to develop projects linked to their education during the summer - either as their own initiatives or together with companies. As in previous years, game development projects dominate, with 16 of the scholarship holders working on their own game ideas.

Examples of this year's projects:

Hydrogen-powered drones, where students from KTH are working with the Arctic Aviation Hub to investigate how future aircraft can be powered by hydrogen.

- "These are real projects with real requirements - not just theory," says student Frans Ignberg.

Architectural visualization Linn Wennberg, who studies architecture at KTH, will visualize the different locations for the new initiative Society Expo.

- "I'm looking forward to working practically with 3D renderings and using my knowledge in a live situation," she says.

Game development with a group of students from Future Games working together to finalize their own game Delayed, which has been in development for several years.

- "This is much better than a regular summer job," says student Isak Söderqvist.

Attracting young students home

Several of the scholarship holders are currently studying elsewhere - including at KTH in Stockholm, Umeå University and Luleå University of Technology. Attracting young people from Skellefteå to contribute to local development is also part of the foundation's goal.

- "There is a clear ambition from the foundation to connect students closer to the local business community - especially those studying elsewhere," says Jörgen Markgren.

At the end of the summer, an extra prize of SEK 100, 000 will also be awarded to the project that is considered to have the greatest impact on business development in Skellefteå.

About the foundation:

The Samme Foundation was established in 2007 following a donation from entrepreneur Samme Lindmark and his wife Maud. The purpose is to stimulate young people's interest in entrepreneurship and contribute to scientific research and education in Skellefteå.
- "So far, we have awarded SEK 9 million in scholarships to promote young people's interest in entrepreneurship and research in Skellefteå," concludes Jörgen Markgren.
