The Story
The history of higher education in Skellefteå is a story of courage, initiative, and a strong belief in the future.
As early as the beginning of the 1970s, the first university courses began to be offered in the city. Behind these initiatives were local enthusiasts, politicians, and community leaders who recognized the need for more educational opportunities in northern Sweden. It was by no means a given that higher education would be available here—but the determination to create opportunities locally drove the development forward.
In the years that followed, the work continued through collaboration between the municipality, the university, and the business community.
