The PROFS Graduate School

PROFS was launched in January 2019 with doctoral students in the fields of English with a focus on didactics, mathematics and learning, pedagogy, and Swedish with a focus on didactics. Currently, 9 doctoral students are enrolled in the graduate school. In the fall of 2021, a new intake of 10–12 doctoral students will take place. The graduate school will then expand to include the subjects of history, political science, and physics.

The purpose of the graduate school is to contribute to the development of knowledge related to schools/preschools and teacher education. A common feature among all doctoral students within PROFS is that their research projects address practice-oriented issues based on the mission of schools/preschools, the activities of teacher education programs, or the school system as a whole. The research school thus has a focus that is well-suited to the current times and can serve as a hub in the work to develop practice-oriented school research.

In addition to the research projects having a practice-oriented focus, the doctoral students collaborate with the region by carrying out parts of their work on behalf of external partners. In this way, the PROFS Graduate School contributes to further strengthening the collaboration between Luleå University of Technology and the region’s school operations.
