Mocap Studio
The campus has invested millions in a motion capture and virtual production studio.
Motion capture is the technology used to capture movements that are then applied to animated characters. Well-known examples include *Avatar*, Gollum in *The Lord of the Rings*, and the new versions of Disney classics such as *The Lion King* and *The Jungle Book*.

“It’s a win-win situation where we make it even more attractive for game studios and other media companies to set up shop in Skellefteå,” says Magnus Johansson, project manager for Arctic Game Lab.
The studio is intended for regional companies in game development, film, advertising, visualization, and education—as well as students at Campus Skellefteå.
Gamification—that is, the use of game elements in activities traditionally unrelated to gaming—is finding its way into an increasing number of industries. For example, in healthcare, where the Skellefteå-based company Mindforce Game Lab develops digital games that help patients with various illnesses adhere to their prescribed treatment and thereby improve their health.
Arctic Game is an organization working to create a strategic platform for the gaming industry in northern Sweden, offering business development, investment support, gaming education, and events to build a strong gaming industry. They create opportunities for studios to grow and give individuals the chance to enter the industry.
Arctic Game is a collaboration between the municipalities of Umeå, Skellefteå, Piteå, Luleå, and Boden and is funded by the municipalities, Region Norrbotten, and Region Västerbotten.
