The impact of digitalization extends throughout our society and is bringing about profound changes. It affects everything from how we communicate and access information to how we shop for groceries and reduce energy consumption in our homes.
Today, the internet, computers, and mobile phones are an integral part of our daily lives, and the rapid development of new services is a given. However, digitalization does not only create new opportunities to simplify, secure, and streamline various aspects of society. It also makes our society vulnerable. This underscores the need for new knowledge to protect us against the risks posed by the digital world.
At Campus Skellefteå, we conduct groundbreaking research in distributed computer systems and cybersecurity.
Distributed Computer Systems
Covers distributed systems and mobile networks that enable mobility and interactivity for computers, data, software, and users. The subject representative leads LTU’s R&D area “Enabling ICT”
Distributed computer systems address technologies that enable data processing and computer communication in any device. Examples include sensors in clothing, buildings, and cars, as well as handheld devices such as smartphones and laptops, which provide transparent computer support for engineers as well as user-conscious utilization of computer technology. Managing the mobility of sensors and handheld devices when connecting to the Internet is also one of the subject’s main focuses.

Gscept is LTU’s umbrella term for creative research and education in Skellefteå. Thanks to this unique environment, the university is highly sought after by visual effects companies and the gaming industry around the world.
