Research Areas

At Campus Skellefteå, research doesn’t stay in theory. It is turned into solutions, innovations and real societal impact.

Through test environments and collaborative arenas in Arctic conditions, ideas can be developed, tested and scaled in close cooperation between academia, industry and society. This is where knowledge meets practice – strengthening the sustainable transition.

Luleå University of Technology

Luleå University of Technology conducts research at Campus Skellefteå in the fields of wood technology, electrical power engineering, energy technology, distributed computer systems, entrepreneurship, and product innovation. LTU has about ten professors affiliated with Campus Skellefteå.

Umeå University

Umeå University conducts research primarily in nursing, partly in association with the Foundation for Medical Research at Skellefteå Hospital. Umeå University has two professors at Campus Skellefteå.

RISE

The campus also houses a branch of the Research Institute of Sweden (RISE), which provides research, development, and innovation consulting services to companies.

Thesis defense ceremonies for licentiate and doctoral dissertations are held regularly and are linked to a research Wall of Fame in the Forum Building.
