For those moving to Sweden
From June 4, there are bookable appointments for identity checks that apply both when moving to Sweden and when applying for a coordination number
This applies to everyone who moves to Sweden (who can show that they will be staying in Sweden for at least 1 year) and thus want to apply for a personal identity number.
Before visiting the Service Office

* Applicants need to download Freja eID to apply and submit their documents before they come on their booked visit for biometrics to us at the service office.
At this booked visit, a valid passport or ID card is presented, as well as a residence permit card for those who do not have EU citizenship. This also applies to coordination numbers.
Applicants gain at least 2-3 weeks by applying digitally instead of printing their application and sending it by post from the service office.

Register as a jobseeker at Arbetsförmedlingen your first day of unemployment.
State whether you are eligible for support from European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for Displaced Workers (EGF)
Arbetsförmedlingen has different programs that include Swedish studies, such as Korta vägen and Yrkessvenska. Arbetsförmedlingen makes the decision on any training.

Swedish for Immigrants, SFI
Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) is a course for adult migrants with a residence permit who wish to learn the Swedish language.
Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) will teach you the basics of the Swedish language. You will learn to speak, read and write basic Swedish and practice conversational Swedish for use in your day-to-day social and working life.
You will be given a grade when you complete the course. Before you are given the grade you must take the mandatory national test.
Approx. 30 weeks per course.
There are various ways to study SFI.
- SFI full time on Campus
- SFI part time (50%) on Campus
- SFI distance learning
You are entitled to attend SFI in Skellefteå if you:
- are registered as a resident of Skellefteå Municipality in the Population Register;
- have a Swedish personal identity number; and
- lack basic knowledge of the Swedish language.
You have the right to combine SFI with a job or work placement.
All tuition is free of charge. Attending SFI does not qualify you for a student grant from CSN.

Introductory Course: Introduction to Swedish and Sweden
The introductory course ‟Introduction to Swedish and Sweden” is a flexible and engaging course for beginners in the language.
The course can be taken as an introductory course before SFI or as a separate course if you do not need a grade.

Comprehensive Swedish studies. The teaching is conducted by qualified teachers. In addition to Swedish studies, we also work with interview training.
For all levels, from beginners to those who have finished SFI D-course. You will get a written certificate including the level you have reached.
Part time studies (50%), with classes at Medlefors 3 hours a day on weekdays, 4 days a week.

Free program for non-swedish speaking workers and residents in Skellefteå.
In the swedish studygroup you can learn more about the Swedish system and improve your Swedish language skills. The focus is spoken language.

Part time studies, 3 hours a day on weekdays, 2-3 days a week depending on level, possibility to attend classes, up to 5 days a week.

Need help to fill out the application form?
If you need help to fill out your claim for income support via our e-service, you can contact Skellefteå Municipality’s Customer Services on 0910-73 50 00 (press 1 for social support and welfare). You are also welcome to visit the Customer Services Desk at the Town Hall, Brinken, or speak to your case officer.
You can apply for income support once a month using the e-service. If you need to make another claim during the same month, you will need to apply on a paper form. It is important that you fill in all of the fields on the form, the paper forms are available in English.
