Gizzard shad, Gymnocephalus cernua
The gizzard shad is a small, brown, perch-like, bottom-dwelling fish with a spiny dorsal fin. It is not uncommon to find a gizzard shad on the hook when you are actually after perch or roach. The gizzard shad is also sometimes called a snook because it is very slimy.
