Work tasks
As an assistant nurse, you work on the basis of the individual's needs and can support the person with everything from supervision to personal nursing and care interventions. You play an important role in the planning of care, and through a rehabilitative approach you support and encourage the elderly person's abilities.
In the majority of Skellefteå municipality's recruitments, you need to have basic knowledge and understanding of the Swedish language.
If you have a residence permit you can learn Swedish in SFI (Svenska för invandrare - Swedish for Immigrants)
You work independently with a lot of freedom and responsibility, while working closely with colleagues and relatives. Other professionals you work with include nurses, care assistants, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. And in some cases also with doctors at health centers.
Your tasks include documenting, planning and organizing daily work. You may also be the contact person for some of the elderly and their relatives.
As an assistant nurse at Skellefteå municipality, you can work in home care services, in nursing homes and at Skellefteå short-term care center.
To be employed as an assistant nurse after July 1 2023, you must first apply for and obtain a certificate from Socialstyrelsen (the National Board of Health and Welfare). Without this certificate, you cannot obtain the protected professional title assistant nurse. However, you can be employed as a care assistant.
The basis for the professional title of assistant nurse is the educational content of the upper secondary school health and care program.
Further education to a specialized assistant nurse
If you are an assistant nurse and want to develop further and take greater responsibility in the workplace, you can study to become a specialized assistant nurse. For work at Skellefteå municipality, you should preferably have a focus on cognitive diseases and disabilities.
