Moving to Skellefteå with an English-speaking child?

We are introducing a bilingual program from 4th to 8th grade, designed for children with English as their first or second language. The purpose is to ease the transition to the Swedish school system through a supportive and engaging learning environment that bridges language barriers.

Your application will be handled by an administrator at Skellefteå Municipality as soon as possible after it's been submitted.
The bilingual program is based on the Swedish national curriculum and will have the capacity of 30 students per grade, from 4th to 8th grade. A bilingual teaching assistant will be present in the classroom. If the teacher gives instructions in Swedish, the assistant provides the support needed in English to ensure that all students follow.
The language used for the teaching materials will vary between Swedish and English.
This program is mainly intended for children of international families who settle in Skellefteå - both for those who aim to stay here and for those who are here only for a shorter period.
It is born out of a growing request of English tuition in Skellefteå's primary schools as more and more people see the potential of Skellefteå as a place to work and live in. However, applications are open to everyone in grade 4 to 8.
Up to 50% of the tuition will be in English. It is used as a tool to bridge language barriers for students who are new to the Swedish language and school system.
Applications are open to everyone in grade 4 to 8. However, the purpose of the bilingual program is to facilitate for English-speaking children that are moving to Skellefteå with their families to attend a Swedish school, i.e., the primary target group is non-Swedish speaking students.
There are limitations to the right to school transport. A student who is assigned to a school in their local area will not get school transport if the parents choose a different one that's further away from home. Read more about requirements in the link below.
However, Floraskolan (Flora school) is only a few bus stops away from Skellefteå city centre, with great bus connections to the school.
