Herring, Clupea harengus

Fried, pickled and sour. Yes, herring is loved by many on the dining table. The term herring is used for herring caught in the Baltic Sea north of Kalmar but is basically the same species.

Fishing method: Herring fishing with a rod can be incredibly rewarding and fun. A casting rod or a rod with a herring hook and sinker is what you need. And a little luck to be in the right place when the shoal swims past.

When and where: It is only for a short period, often in June, that herring enter more coastal waters to spawn and you have a chance to hook them.
